Orchards Junior School

Year 6

Welcome from Mrs Hall - Year Leader

We are delighted to welcome you and your child to Year 6! This year promises to be an exciting adventure filled with amazing opportunities for our children.
From engaging and fun-packed lessons to exhilarating trips, including an adventure to London and the spectacular end of year trip to Disneyland Paris, there is a lot to look forward to!
As we embark on this busy journey, we encourage your child, , to embrace every moment and make the most of these experiences.

Year 6 Rewards:

Throughout Year Six, various accolades will be awarded to children who have really impressed us. These include:

  • Postcards of Excellence which get posted home outlining the achievement.
  • Year Six Superstars who receive a badge and take part in Hall’s Happy Hour which involves baking cupcakes to take home.

Homework in Year 6: Booklet

Homework booklets have been sent home with the children. This is a geography/general knowledge based project that we are sure the children will enjoy. Please can the children complete the activities on a weekly basis and then bring the booklet back as they complete each task. Raffle tickets will be awarded for exceptional effort. These are drawn half-termly for a £5 WH Smith gift voucher.

MyMaths homework will be set on a Tuesday and will be due in the following Tuesday. As this is a core curriculum subject this is a compulsory task.

Dress up Days: Victorian Day

Year 6 are going to be partaking in two Victorian days. The purpose of these days will be for the children to experience life as a Victorian school child which will broaden their understanding and knowledge of the Victorian era. During these days, the children will partake in a range of activities including drill, inspection, hymn practice, handwriting and much more. To really bring these days to life, and to add to the realism of the tasks, we would ask that the children come to school dressed as Victorian children.

Day Trips: Drusillas:

Our Year 6 team head to Drusillas to support our Science and English Topics.

Rivers Trip:

We plan a geography trip to Littlehampton to support the work that we are doing on rivers. The activities will include looking at how natural forces and human events have shaped the area as well as exploring how the river changes on its journey to the sea. We will also be looking at the sea defences that have been installed.

We are hoping that the pupils will be able to attend a brief visit to the RNLI boat house.
We are planning to have fish and chips meal for lunch with ice cream after.

Year 6 Disney: Disneyland Pairs

This trip is an exciting residential opportunity for your child, which we think offers them a unique experience. We travel to Dover and then by ferry across to Calais. We stop off at the Sea Life Centre in Boulogne where we will spend a few hours exploring the exhibitions. We will then have our evening meal at McDonald’s en-route to Paris.  Arrive at our Hotel on the Disneyland site that evening. Children get a full day at Disneyland Park, where lunch will be provided, followed by our evening meal at a restaurant in the park. We will return to the park after dinner for more rides, shopping and spectacular drone light display. Our final day we drive by coach into the centre of Paris for a short tour of the major sights ending at the Eiffel Tower.  From here we will enjoy a cruise on the River Seine including a picnic lunch.  We will eat dinner on the ferry home.

Our wonderful Year 6 children will have the fantastic opportunity to order a special leavers hoodie through Hoodies Co. in June! 🎉

Children can choose from a variety of colours and sizes. Each hoodie will proudly display the year 2026 along with all the children's names, making it a wonderful keepsake. Additionally, they can personalise the arms with their nickname, adding a special touch just for them!

Hoodies will be delivered in July, right after SATS, ensuring that our students can wear their hoodies with pride as they celebrate this memorable milestone.
